Shelby Kelly’s Perfect Game Fuels Wartburg Central’s 16-0 Rout Over Sunbright

It was a game for the record books on Thursday night as Shelby Kelly delivered a flawless performance, pitching a perfect game to lead the Wartburg Central Varsity Bulldogs to a dominant 16-0 victory over Sunbright.

The Bulldogs wasted no time, lighting up the scoreboard with 15 runs in the first inning in what can only be described as an offensive explosion. The bats were on fire, and Sunbright had no answer.

First-Inning Fireworks

The Bulldogs’ offense came out swinging, putting up run after run before Sunbright could even catch their breath.

  • Braylen Melton got things rolling with an inside-the-park home run, bringing in two runs.
  • Madi Aslinger followed with a two-run single.
  • Bradlee Sexton grounded out but still managed to drive in a run.
  • Edye-Ann Williams singled to bring home another.
  • Melton took one for the team, getting hit by a pitch to score a run.
  • Katelyn Rayfield drew a bases-loaded walk for another RBI.
  • A Sunbright error let two more Bulldogs cross home plate.
  • Maeve Hudson then capped off the inning with a clutch single, driving in four runs!
  • Lillie Swint added another RBI single to complete the massive first-inning effort.

By the time the dust settled, the Bulldogs had complete control of the game.

The Perfect Performance

While the offense was electric, the real story of the night belonged to Shelby Kelly, who etched her name in the history books with a perfect game.

Kelly’s final line:
3 innings pitched
0 hits allowed
0 walks
6 strikeouts

Her dominance in the circle was unmatched, shutting down every Sunbright batter that dared to step in the box. Not a single runner reached base.

She was locked in. Every pitch had purpose, and she made it look effortless.

Closing It Out

The Bulldogs tacked on one more in the bottom of the second with a walk by Maddy Hurst, extending the lead to 16-0 and sealing the mercy-rule win.

Offensively, Hudson, Williams, Aslinger, Swint, Melton, Addi Brown, and Kelly all had hits. Melton went 1-for-1 and led the team with three RBIs. Kelly also worked the count well, drawing two walks as the Bulldogs racked up 11 free passes on the night.

Defensively, the Bulldogs were flawless, not committing a single error. Hudson led the team with six chances in the field, ensuring Kelly’s perfect game stayed intact.
